Description

The Pitaya Cares is a program where we design a shirt for a cause close to our hearts and donate all the proceeds to a specific person or a Charity. This Shirt was created for Mr.Pieri who has been battling Heart Disease all his life. Read his story below….

Mr.Pieri has suffered many life threatening situations in his life. It has first started with being hit by a car when he was in high school, where they had to shock him back to life. A few years after, he was diagnosed with a blood clot which closely took his life. It was near his main vein in his thigh. He spent days in the hospital, which meant more medical bills. Ten years later, he suffered from an infection in his tooth that caused half of his face to swell up. When he went to the hospital, the doctor told him he caught the infection just in time as this almost reached his brain and almost caused him to lose his life, again. Now, he has a heart muscle disease called Cardiomyopathy. He pumps very little blood in and out of his heart. He is currently on several medications to help keep him alive. My dad is currently in and out of the heart doctor. His heart will never improve and be as strong as it once was. Because his heart will never be back to normal, he has now been a candidate for an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), which he currently has in his chest now. This defibrillator has two wires that attach to his heart in case his heart completely dies on him. It will shock him back to life, just in time to get to the hospital. If his heart worsens over time, he will be put on the waiting list for a heart transplant.
